THOUGHT OF THE WEEK—“Without Sports there’d be no next year.” ESPN
TEAM RECOGNITION—Please welcome new members: Kristie Briggs, Erin & Pam Bifaro!! Also congratulations on an awesome finish time in the Blair Century Ride goes to Andrew K, Steve Clinch and Coach Sandy.
TIP OF THE WEEK –Still running inside? I know the treadmill is sometimes easier and quicker especially if it’s in your basement! However, we’re in the peak training months in Nebraska-take full advantage of it!! This means you have to get outside and face the elements. This makes a huge difference in your training regimen. So get outside even every other time to improve performance.
RUNNING TRIVIA OR HISTORY— The Achilles Tendon is a tough elastic cable through which the muscles of your calf transmit force to your foot. Injury to it comes from tearing or microtearing. Microtearing signalled by gradually building pain can lead to partial and even total rupture if there is no healing. Symptoms include pain and stiffness that are at their worst when you awaken. The pain diminishes as you warm up and it may even disappear when you run only to return when you cool back down. Then the stiffness is worse than before! The key to recovery is rest, modified exercise and stretching for about 10 days. Return to run slowly with a gradual build. Check your shoes, take some yoga/stretching classes. Check for gout and severe pronation. As always check it out with a doc.

Sandy,
You did the century? Holy sXXX, how was it? Here you are kicking butt while I’m sitting around eating and drinking at the lake. I can’t wait to hear all about it. I’ll call you on Monday. I ran twice, does that count as training? I don’t think so.

My a** will prove that I did. I DID not plan to-I just kind of wanted to get it off my list and it worked out weather/schedule wise. Anyway, looking forward to training this week. Running Wed night and Sat. am. Cycling/swimming in between.

The climbing wall was so much fun! We should do it again and again so maybe one day we can do those overhangs and arch climb. Thanks to the running club for bringing fun into my Omaha life.

Our pleasure and thanks for being a part of it-we need every one of you!

Ok I agree, we need to do both b-ball and rock climbing more often. I am betting that Jody will be the first one to get to the overhang! That was fun – yet really hard!

Anyone doing the Spokes for Folks ride on Sept. 13th? I did it last year and it was a great ride. I did the 42 mile last time.

Liz and I are going to do the Spokes for Folks ride. I think we’re only going to do the 14 mile ride.
I agree on doing basketball and rock climbing again. I thought it was a fun time and a good workout.
